On the eve of school holidays the Palaszczuk Government has cut driver reviver sites across the state including a popular rest area just outside Bundaberg.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said he’s disgusted by the decision, slamming the state government during a recent speech in parliament. *
“This is reckless. Dangerous. Completely irresponsible,” he said.
“Queensland’s road toll is the highest it’s been in years, despite this the State Government is set on shutting down our driver reviver sites, putting countless people at risk.
“I am shocked by this decision and fear the consequences.”
Mr Bennett said this cut is completely unacceptable.
“Closing our driver reviver sites is not the appropriate way for a government to dig themselves out of debt.
“This is a ridiculous example of a penny-pinching government struggling to fix a failed budget.
“The Premier and her ministers evidently don’t spend enough time driving on our highways to realise just how dangerous they are.
“Clearly, they don’t leave their leafy suburbs in Brisbane and the Southeast enough.
“This state government is out of touch with Queensland.”
The popular driver reviver site on the Bruce Highway in Gin Gin services more than 100 people a day during holidays and is set to close as early as January 2.
