Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has reaffirmed his commitment to the future of the Great Barrier Reef by announcing that an LNP Government, if elected, would commit $300,000 to the ‘Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef’ initiative if elected.

Mr Bennett and his LNP Shadow Minister colleagues have signed up and taken a pledge to boost global awareness and protect Queensland’s greatest natural wonder for future generations.

“The Great Barrier Reef is right on our region’s doorstep and I am determined to ensure this precious ecosystem can be enjoyed for years to come,” Mr Bennett said.

“The reef is one of our most iconic tourism drawcards, supporting more than 67,000 jobs and delivering $6 billion every year to our state’s economy.

“I’m proud to announce that a future LNP Government will commit $300,000 to the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef action plan, on top of the $1.3 million contribution made by the Federal Government.”

Mr Bennett said the initiative was facilitated by global leaders in science and conservation and will boost awareness and funds to ensure the reef’s survival.

“By getting behind this important cause, the LNP will work tirelessly to protect the Reef and encourage tourists from around the world to come to our great state and see it for themselves,” Mr Bennett said.

“Unlike Labor who constantly talk down the Reef, the LNP will be focusing on the substantial efforts Queenslanders are making our most precious natural wonder.
