Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is refusing to let the State Labor Government off the hook over Walkers Point boat ramp, following an array of dismissive responses.

Mr Bennett said the boat ramp is clearly not a priority for the transport minister despite it making TMR’s list of priority recreational boating projects’.

“I have to ask if the latest response from Minister Bailey is a joke?” he said.

“It’s been two years since an upgrade to the Walkers Point boat ramp was assessed, prioritised, and included in the list of projects for consideration in a future works program.

“How can the Palaszczuk Government claim it’s a ‘priority project’ but fail to do one single thing about it?”

Mr Bennett sponsored a petition that requested the House do all within its power to commence construction of the already-identified Queensland State Government Priority 1 Project for Walkers Point, Woodgate boat ramp. *

In response to the petition, Minister Bailey stated: **

‘An upgrade to the Walkers Point boat ramp, including concept feasibility investigations and costings for the provision of a breakwater, remains on the list of priority recreational boating projects for consideration in a future works program. Any upgrade to the landside facilities (including car-trailer parking) is the responsibility of Bundaberg Regional Council and a matter for its consideration.’

Mr Bennett said it’s clear the Palaszczuk Government has lost touch with regional Queensland.

“I am sick and tired of watching this government waste taxpayers’ money,” he said.

“This month the Premier handed back the keys to Wellcamp at a cost of $220 million!

“The Premier and her minsters aren’t listening to what Queenslanders want and need.”

Mr Bennett made a submission to the Queensland Treasury ahead of the 2023-24 Queensland State Budget in March.

The submission included $200,000 for the construction of a rock wall to protect Walker’s Point boat ramp.
