Darts players have scored a win after the State Government finally recognised darts as an official sport in Queensland.
It’s following a two-year long campaign by Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett, Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, and Member for Lockyer Jim McDonald.
Mr Bennett said the win means darts clubs are now able to access sports grants or vouchers for kids wanting to join these clubs across the state.
“The Sports Minister finally backed down and adopted our position to give darts players the recognition and respect they deserve,” he said.
“This is a win for common sense and people power.
“A huge thanks must go to Brisbane Valley Darts Association Tami Leck who set her sights on a target and never gave up.
“Her passion and determination to see fairness prevail will benefit hundreds of players across the state.
“Thank you to all the local players who came to my office, wrote letters, and campaigned for the change.
“I shake my head at how long it took for the State Government to get on board, but at the end of the day we’ve finally got a great result thanks to people power and perseverance!”
