Turtle populations will receive greater protection under the LNP Government if incumbent member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is re-elected.

Current sitting member Stephen Bennett has kicked off his election campaign by promising to invest $75,000 to protect sea turtles along our coastline.

Mr Bennett said if he is re-elected, he will deliver the installation of turtle friendly lighting along the Woongarra coastline.

“There has been much conversation around the ever-increasing issue of artificial lighting and its effect on our endangered Loggerhead turtle population,” he said.

“If I’m re-elected, I will deliver on this election promise and ensure greater protection of our sea turtles.

“This funding builds on the LNP’s existing commitment to protect turtles, including the innovative fox baiting program at Mon Repos.

“It’s really important that we continue to invest not only in tourism strategies but also research and development to make sure the turtles are here for future generations.”

Mr Bennett said he would work with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services, the Bundaberg Regional Council, Ergon Energy and other stakeholders to ensure the correct lighting was installed.
