Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is making special deliveries to local clubs and organisations ahead of the summer sporting season.
Mr Bennett has hit the road this week to deliver 14 marquees to sporting groups and not-for-profits to promote sun safety across the Burnett.
“From footy, touch and little athletics, to horse-riding, scouts and surf lifesaving, all of these awesome summer sports have one thing in common: they’re all outdoors and under our harsh UV rays,” he said.
“This week people of all ages and abilities are dusting off their gear to get back into their summer sports for 2022.
“Outdoor sports are great for our health and wellbeing but it’s vital we all stay safe in the sun.
“That’s why I’m hitting the road this week to deliver shade marquees to our local clubs and not-for-profits to ensure everyone is being sun safe.”
Mr Bennett said preventing skin cancer should be a number one priority for everyone across the Burnett.
“Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world with one in two Aussies being diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.
“But the good news is, skin cancer is preventable and being SunSmart is a simple and effective way to reduce your risk of developing the disease.”
Round two of Stephen Bennett’s Sun-Safety initiative will see 14 marquees delivered to Agnes Water Active Riders, Agnes Water Little Athletics, Bargara FC, Bundaberg and District Extreme Cowboys, Childers Rifle & Pistol Club, Childers Touch, Isis District Little Athletics, Pacifique Surfriders, Phoenix 963 FM Bundaberg Station, Sharon State School, Bundaberg U3A and the Bundaberg Bush House and Garden Club.
If you are a local sporting club or not-for-profit group, contact the Burnett Electorate Office on 4111 5100 or [email protected] to find out how to get involved with Mr Bennett’s Sun-Safety initiative.
