Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has rolled out a swag of election commitments to support the region.
Over recent weeks the incumbent MP has announced more than $2.3 million in support of local community groups, projects, and infrastructure upgrades.
Mr Bennett’s list of priorities and commitments includes a new Surf Life Saving Clubhouse at Moore Park Beach, $300,000 towards Money’s Creek Lagoon Rehabilitation at Bargara, a water play area in Childers and $200,000 to improve safety at the Walkers Point Boat Ramp, among other key local projects.
Water security is also high on the MP’s agenda, with the LNP repeatedly vowing to fix Paradise Dam to secure the region’s economic future.
“I’m running again as part of the LNP team because I know our region has even better days to come, and I want to secure an economic future for you and your loved ones,” Mr Bennett said.
“The future of Paradise Dam and our region’s water security will rely on the outcome of this election.”
As part of the LNP’s comprehensive ICE plan, the Wide Bay region would also receive a rehab and detox facility under an LNP Government to provide more treatment services to help those struggling with addiction.
Mr Bennett said the region would also benefit from the LNP’s $50 million destination marketing blitz to get Australian tourists back in tourism hotspots like the Bundaberg and Burnett region.
“People are already planning their next Christmas holidays and I want them to holiday right here in the beautiful Bundaberg-Burnett region,” he said.
“We will also introduce electricity competition into regional Queensland to drive down those skyrocketing electricity bills, saving you hundreds on your power bills each year.”
Mr Bennett said education is also a key priority.
“A strong education system means a strong economy and more local and secure jobs, and that’s why a future LNP Government will deliver 3350 extra teachers and 760 teacher aides,” he said.
“This is on top of the LNP’s plan to improve results by decluttering the curriculum by getting back to basics and phonics screening and air-conditioning every state school classroom.”
Mr Bennett said from the bush to the beach, he was committed to the region and would continue to work hard from every corner of the electorate.
“While it’s all too easy to produce glossy brochures on promises, what’s really important is the hard work and commitment candidates demonstrate to our community,” he said.
“From introducing tougher penalties for dangerous drivers to make our roads safer, to putting on a Bushfire Benefit Concert that raised over $20,000 for our bushfire effected communities, I’m very proud of what we have been able to achieve since I was first elected in 2012.”
“While we have achieved a lot together, I hope I’m given the opportunity to continue to represent the Burnett because there’s more work to be done, and I want to see it through.”
