Woodgate locals and boaties are a step closer to seeing a safety upgrade at the notoriously dangerous Walkers Point Boat Ramp, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett announced today.
Mr Bennett, who has been campaigning for safety improvements at the Walkers Point Boat Ramp with locals, said he had secured a commitment from the Minister to prioritize works, including provision of a breakwater.
Mr Bennett said the notoriously dangerous boat ramp has been cause for concern for quite some time, and up until recently the issue had been all but ignored by the State Government.
“Our local anglers are often put in a very dangerous situation at the Walkers Point Boat ramp due to the tide and current, which I have raised with the Minister time and time again,” he said.
“Up until this point it wasn’t even on the state government’s radar as a priority.
“Finally, we have an acknowledgement from the Minister that this particular boat ramp must be prioritized in future works programs, which is a step in the right direction.”
Mr Bennett said he would continue to push for the safety upgrades to ensure the essential works are carried out in a timely manner.
“Locals and boating enthusiasts can now look forward to critical steps being undertaken in the future to improve access and reduce risks, and I’ll be keeping the Minister and his government accountable on their commitment,” he said.
“Being out on the water is a huge part of life for many who live in the Burnett region so it’s vital we make access to the water as safe as possible.”
