Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has called on graziers and producers to have their say on the future of water management in the Baffle Creek Catchment Basin.
The State Government has proposed a nine-year extension of the water plan that regulates the use of water in the area.
“Our farmers have a chance to speak up on what is working and what they would like changed as part of the water plan that regulates the taking or overland flow water,” Mr Bennett said.
“The Baffle Creek Basin plan area includes the catchments of Littabella, Baffle, Broadwater, Eurimbula and Worthington Creeks.”
The plan that’s currently in use was developed in 2010 and has supported water use for dairying, fodder, plantations and horticulture throughout the region
“To date, the plan has served its purpose reasonably well but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to improve it,” Mr Bennett said.
“It is absolutely vital the government hears from the people who know best about their water.”
Under the current arrangements, the Baffle Creek Basin Water Plan was due to expire on 1 September 2021 but as a result of its success and feedback from the community, we are proposing the extension.
For further information visit DNRME’s website. Feedback on the extension also can be provided via the website and can be submitted until 29 March 2019.
