As parents prepare to send their children back to school for another year, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging families to add an extra pencil case or notebook to their shopping list to donate to domestic violence victims.
Mr Bennett said as a new school year approaches, some women being supported by EDON Place would struggle to provide school supplies for their children.
“All I am asking is if you can afford to, please pick up an extra pencil case or notebook when you’re out doing your shopping,” Mr Bennett said.
“While parents are out gathering supplied for their children, it’s an ideal time to consider helping another local family out.
“Together we can help send a child back to school equipped with the essentials they need to continue their education.”
A spokesperson from EDON Place said that they were very grateful for the support of Mr Bennett’s office and the generosity of the community.
“The school items will be appreciated by the families being assisted at our service who do not have the capacity to provide them for their children,” the spokesperson said.
To make a donation, visit Stephen Bennett’s office in See Street, Bargara, or contact his office on 4111 5100.
