Works to improve safety on the Bruce Highway at Apple Tree Creek as part of the Queensland Government’s $350 million Road Safety Action Plan program have been completed.

I’m really pleased the $460,000 worth of safety measures were implemented so quickly.

Following several tragic crashes along this stretch of road, we began implementing safety measures last year.

I am happy to say they are now completed, with minor vegetation clearing still to occur.

The proactive improvement of the safety functions at Apple Tree Creek is all part of our efforts to provide better infrastructure and better planning for Queensland.

These measures will significantly contribute to an improved safety record for this section of the national highway.

The works included:

  • Previous 80km/h speed zone reduced to 70km/h
  • Installation of wide-centre line treatment
  • Six solar-powered flag lights installed at local intersections
  • Over 1500 metres of guardrail installed across 12 sites
  • 24 traffic safety signs installed
  • Reduction of vegetative roadside hazards.

A submission has been made under the Safer Roads Sooner program for funding to undertake further works in the area. We expect an announcement on the success of that submission later this year.

As always I encourage drivers to drive to the conditions and avoid the fatal five.
