Grants of up to $75,000 are now available to help local farmers who were impacted by last year’s bushfires.

Eligible primary producers who have suffered direct damage from the 2023 bushfires can apply for grants to help with short-term recovery needs including pasture rehabilitation, fodder, replacing livestock, and repairs to infrastructure and equipment.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has welcomed the support following desperate pleas from local graziers.

“I can’t tell you how relieved some of our producers will be,” said Mr Bennett.

“They’ve finally been heard after enduring some of the most challenging few months of their lifetime.

“For many farmers their paddocks were far more important than their house.

“You can insure a house, but you can’t insure a paddock of grass despite it being their livelihood.

“This funding comes as welcome news for our hardworking producers.

“A huge thanks also must also go to the Bundaberg and Gladstone Local Councils who have been working tirelessly to support our communities to ensure funding is make available to those who need it most.”

The Exceptional Circumstances Recovery Grants will be administered by the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF).
