Two local businesses have joined forced to find a solution to cut the pollution this Plastic Free July.

The Bargara based businesses, Refill Not Landfill and PLOYS, have partnered up with the launch of an Eco travel pack in an effort to reduce the amount of wasteful packaging in daily use products.

PLOYS owner, director and creator Carin Van Grunsven said a shared ethos of protecting the planet from waste and doing no harm to the earth and animals, created the birth of a new line of Go Eco travel packs.

“We aim to reduce our landfill by encouraging others to refill home and body products and pack them in convenient recycled travel packs, made from discarded PVC from pool inflatables by PLOYS,” she said.

“Here at PLOYS we prevent huge amounts of plastic from ending up in landfill through a circular loop.

“We repurpose reusable PVC and old or punctured pool toys and turn them into weatherproof purses and bags.

“Beverley from Refill not Landfill and I connected through Artisans 4670 and found a combined passion of recycling from which it was a logical next step to collaborate and develop this new exciting Go Eco pack.”

Refill not Landfill’s Director Beverley Whip said it’s important we all start to move towards a more sustainable future.

“It’s hard to believe that 91% of all plastic is still not recycled,” she said.

“From one 20 litre drum, if filling 500ml bottles, we save 40 bottles from entering landfill here at Refill not Landfill.”

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett PLOYS and Refill not Landfill should be commended on their innovation.

“Through innovative practices like that of Carin and Beverley’s we can make a real difference,” he said.

“It’s vital we take steps to reduce the use of single use plastics to help clean our oceans, streets and communities.

“Last year, an estimated 326 million people across the globe took part in the Plastic Free July challenge.

“So I’m challenging everyone across the Burnett to choose to refuse single use plastics this month and support local businesses like PLOYS and Refill not Landfill who are leading the way.

“Let’s do something drastic and cut the plastic!”
